Flood orgy continues in Assam

 The Assam government will seek help from the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati to expedite and make flood relief and rescue operations more effective. The team from IIT, Guwahati, will assist in the campaign through drone surveys. The dean of the institute, Parameshwara Iyer, said that the government has approached us and we will start work in this direction soon.

In Assam, before the monsoon, the river's raging form continues. A total of nine people died due to drowning and landslides in the last 24 hours amid a worsening flood situation, while eight are still missing. A total of 71 people have died in the state so far this year, out of which at least 11 people have died due to landslides. This information was given by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

According to government data, two people drowned in Barpeta and Karimganj in the district, while one person each died in Darang, Hailakandi, Nalbari, and Sonitpur. According to the latest information, about 42 lakh people in 32 districts have been affected by the floods in the state.

In Barpeta district alone, more than 7.31 lakh people have been affected. At the same time, more than 3.54 lakh people have been affected in Darang, 3.52 lakh in Bajali, 1.25 lakh in Hojai and 1.13 lakh in Bangaigaon. Due to incessant rains in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and neighboring Bhutan, rivers in Assam and other neighboring states are flowing above the danger mark.

The water level of Brahmaputra, Pagaladia, Beki, Manas, Kapili, Jia Bharali is above the danger mark in many parts of Assam. Due to incessant rains, a situation of waterlogging has arisen in various parts of the capital, Guwahati. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the flood situation in the state and directed all district administrations to ensure an adequate supply of relief materials.

The administration has set up 514 relief camps and 302 relief distribution centers in the flood-affected districts. 1,566,365 people are taking shelter in relief camps. Apart from this, people have also taken shelter on roads, embankments, and high places. According to the ASDMA report, 4,291 villages are submerged under 118 revenue circles. At the same time, 66,455.82 hectares of agricultural land have been submerged in water. More than 25.54 million animals have been affected by this.

The Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDFR), fire and emergency services, and administration have so far rescued 9,102 people, including children and women, from 22 districts. At the same time, according to the bulletin, 20,983 people have been evacuated to safer places so far.

There was no rain in Tripura on Sunday, and the flood situation recorded a slight improvement. However, there is a report of a person being swept away in a strong current in Katakhal. At present, the water level of the Howrah river has come down below the danger mark. The missing person has been identified as Siraj Miyan of Mylakhola. According to SDMA officials, 12,000 people from three districts were displaced in the floods triggered by the rains that began on Friday. 45 relief camps have been prepared for the affected.
