Draupadi Murmu talks to Sonia, Mamta and Pawar

National Democratic Alliance (NDA) presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu on Friday spoke to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar over the phone and asked them to meet the President. He asked people to vote for him in the election.

Sources gave this information.

He said Murmu himself spoke to the three prominent opposition leaders before filing his nomination.

According to sources, Sonia, Mamata, and Pawar extended their best wishes to Murmu.

Murmu filed his nomination papers today in the presence of senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister Modi addressed the Returning Officer P.C. Handed over Murmu's nomination papers to Modi.

Senior BJP leaders like Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, J.P. Nadda, Chief Ministers of several states and leaders of allies were present.

Apart from BJP leaders, YSR Congress leader Vijayasai Reddy, two ministers from Odisha's Biju Janata Dal government and its leader Sasmit Patra, AIADMK leader O. Panneerselvam, Thambi Durai, and Rajiv Ranjan Singh of Janata Dal (United) were present.

If elected, Murmu will be the first tribal and second female president of the country.

Voting for the presidency will take place on July 18. The term of current President Ram Nath Kovind ends on July 24.
