India to add 41 million more smartphones by 2025

Per capita monthly data consumption in India can reach 25 GB per month by 2025. In the year 2019 it was 12 GB per month, which is the highest usage of internet (data) globally. Ericsson, the major manufacturer of telecom equipment, has given this information in a report.

The 'Mobility Report' of June 2020 stated that the main reason for this is the cheap mobile internet in the country and the inclusion of watching videos in the habit of people.

According to the report, the pace of internet consumption in the country will continue even further. Also, the highest monthly data consumption will be per smartphone. According to the report, only four percent of the households in the country have a broadband line. In such a situation, the main way to access the Internet is the smartphone.


Prateek Sarwal, executive editor of Ericsson Mobility Report and head of strategic marketing, said that internet usage in the country is expected to triple to 21 EB (Exabyte) by 2025.

Number of smartphone users increased even in rural areas :

This is due to the increasing number of smartphone users in the country including rural areas and the increase in average internet usage per smartphone. He said that by 2025, 41 million smartphones are expected to be added. Thus, by 2025, the monthly per capita data consumption in the country is expected to increase to 25 GB.
