Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said that there is a lot of government intervention in IIMs and the government is taking steps towards removing it. Javadekar told the Lok Sabha that the 'Indian Institute of Management Bill 2017' was introduced for consideration through which these institutions would be able to award degrees and PhD degrees.
He further said that so far IIMs only provide certificates, diplomas and fellowships. After its passing, they will also be able to confer degrees and PhD degrees. He said that there is a lot of government intervention in IIMs and our government is taking initiatives towards removing it. He made it clear that such provisions have been made in this bill.
